About Me
My therapeutic practice values deep connection. I believe the most powerful intervention
I have as a clinician is the therapeutic relationship, which, at its best, helps people become
more connected to themselves and the world around them. Hello, my name is Xochitl Fernandez Pizarro. As a Latina who has benefitted from the therapeutic relationship as both a client and clinician, I know this intervention – this deep connectedness – is especially critical in the lives of those who are pushed to the margins of society.
My personal therapy journey ultimately led me to become a therapist. I have found
healing, love, and connection to myself and others through my relationship with my therapist. I
believe everyone deserves to feel that connection; I am committed to having this kind of
transformative impact on the lives of my clients.
Through my studies at Antioch University’s Clinical Psychology program, and clinical
experiences, I have developed a therapeutic practice that centers connection, care, and
Authenticity. I have experience working with both individuals and couples, which taught me the importance of adaptability, giving me hands-on experience finding the most effective communication styles and interventions for each unique client. My experience as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist has included work with clients of diverse backgrounds including different racial, ethnic and sexual identities, mixed family and single parents, clients who are domestic violence and trauma survivors, and clients who bring a variety of unique experiences and feelings into the therapy room. My work with my clients has also taught me that my humanness is a strength to my practice. Learning to show up as my authentic and honest self in the room with clients, has allowed for a deeper connection that made us more open with one another, affecting positive growth for both of us.
I may use a variety of different theoretical interventions and orientations in my work with my clients including CBT, DBT, Client Centered and Emotionally focused therapy. I believe that the therapeutic practice should be adjusted and catered to each individual client and that working with the client’s identity and background in mind is integral to a positive therapeutic experience.
