About Me

Hi my name is Iliana A. Huacuja, I’m a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist based in California. I come from a mixed-documented-status family from Mexico, and like many immigrant families, we were often in survival. I was fortunate to attend higher education and learn about inequalities, social justice, and human rights and discover my queerness; learning about intersectionality was key in developing my identity. As a young neurodivergent, queer, Mexican American I struggled with mental health and sought therapy to get through a very toxic relationship. My therapist offered a safe space to process my emotions and trauma I experienced in the relationship. She guided me in working through difficult feelings and helped me reclaim my sense of self. I felt empowered, regained control of my life, and decided I wanted to dedicate my career to helping others the way my therapist did.

My goal is to use my education and passion for social justice to provide care and support for all families. I am trained in trauma-focused CBT and can utilize DBT and other modalities based on my client’s needs. I have experience with children, adolescents, families and individuals with autism, ADHD, and depression, and anxiety along with people experiencing family conflict, acculturation difficulties, and intergenerational trauma. I am good at being present in a non-judgmental way with clients--for many, this is their first time in therapy, and I like to show them that this is a safe and supportive place for them. I am excited to help others grow and find their inner voice and strength. When I worry about feeling stuck with a client, I remember and trust the therapeutic process, sometimes being a therapist is about planting seeds that you don’t always get to see grow.
